Top Tip Tuesday Guest Designer male card Spitfire Delicious Doodles

Good morning! Thanks for stopping by.  I was lucky to be picked as Top Tipper over at Top Tip Tuesday a few weeks ago, and was asked to be guest designer for their challenge this week.  The challenge is to use metal faux or real! So I have used some metal charms and wait for it... I have a done a male card. I KNOW! shock horror lol!!! I have used "spitfire" from Delicious Doodles, and didnt have to colour it at all- super simple!  The sentiment is a combination using a Popcorn bear sentiment and a Whimsy notables 2 outer frame stamp and cut with the notables 2 die. I used DP from two Prima pads- called "Cartographer"  and "engraver".  Die cuts are using magnolia swirl die, Cheery Lynn Gears die and Heartfelt Creations Layered Elegant Swirl die.  The charms are from Nini's Things on facebook.

Here's my top tip for the challenge: When distressing edges of your cardstock, ink the edges and distress whilst still wet.  Place the edge of what you are going to distress onto your table leaving about 1cm hanging over the edge of your table. Working from the centre of your cardstock and out to the corner, distress using your distressing tool. This way, your corners stay intact, and your paper will not get creases in it. The slight wetness left by the ink helps it “puff”up.

So now its your turn.... Pop over to Top Tip Tuesday and show us your metal! and while you're there, why not leave a tip to help us all craft a little easier and you could be the next Guest Designer?!

a little tutorial on making butterflies using corner dies

Good morning. Here's a little tutorial by request on how to make a beautiful butterfly using your corner dies.  When choosing the die to use, you need to make sure that it forms a nice "V" shape- that is- there is no flourishes etc coming from the centre of the die OR that the die doesn't go straight across (If you only have dies that flourish out, simply cut off the florish into a nice V shape).  The die I have used here is the La La Lands corner die- it is the perfect shape and size.  There are two ways you can cut your "wings". The first is to fold your paper (I like to use vellum and mulberry paper) like I have in the picture, overlaping the corner section over the fold- this way you cut TWO die cuts.  The other way is to cut FOUR die cuts and glue two together ONLY AT THE CORNER SECTION (you want to be able to separate your wings so they look like they are flying) - you would use this technique if you are using something with a print on it.

whichever technique you use, you will end up with two wings that look like this:

then it is a matter of gluing the two wings together.  I like to twist my wings down, giving the look that one wing is larger than the other.  You may need to trim excess corner from the centre.

There are numerous ways to decorate the centre body.  You can use adhesive pearls or rhinestones, use liquid pearls or similar and use little flower stamens for the antellas... Or you can get fancy and add real beads! Heres how:

the wire you want to use is 22 or 24 gauge.  24 is thinner and you would use this for beads with smaller hole in the centre like a bicone crystal. You need to thread two pieces of wire through your bead so I suggest buying the thinner wire and you can use it for all your beads unless you are going to make tons! Here I have used a purple 22 gauge wire.  Thread wire through your beads, and then thread it back through the same beads. Using a round nose plier hold the loop while you pull the ends tight with another set of normal pliers.  It is easier to pull only one wire at a time.

trim the antellas and curl them around your round pliers

The it is a matter of gluing your body to your wings.  I use and recommend Crafter's Pick Ultimate Glue, but you could use a jewellers cement or even hot glue.  I wrap my top wings around the beads a little not only to give a more adhesive hold, but it makes the wings stay in flight.  Viola! a beautiful butterfly!

I hope you have found this little tutorial helpful... let your imagination run wild!

Tiddly Inks You and Me Wedding Card

Good afternoon. My best friend asked me to do a special wedding card for her brother who was married in January.  She wanted a card that was not too girly, no flowers, and girl in colour.  Her words were make it simple, but elegant.  The brides favourite colour is green and my friend wanted that incorporated.  She did not not a big wedding dress image or anything over the top.  My creativity and brain was pushed to the limits! This is what I came up with.  It is a Tiddly Inks digital image called You and Me.  I have used the Lili of the Valley round stamp from the Happy Circular Sentiments set. Corner die is by Cheery Lynn called Deco Lace Corner. Swirl is magnolia die. Top Tip: make your own butterflies by cutting four corner dies ( I used Spellbinders Lace Hearts set (awesome set- comes with the hearts, a key and a corner die) and gluing them together at the corner part.  The little wings are also from a spellbinders set called Mixd Media Elements (get them here from Simon Says Stamp).  The lace, ribbon, diamonte slider and rhinestones all from my stash.  The adhesive heart bling I got from Arnolds.. my LSS. the paper is glitter paper from Best creation.  I have distressed the edges with a Tim Holtz Distresser.

I would like to enter in to the following challenges:
Make it Monday: Anything goes
Creative Knockouts: Tic Tac Toe (distressing, sentiment, ribbon)

Copic Colours used:
Skin: YR 0000, E30, 31, 33
